Blogging, what is there to know?

So you’re Thinking that you’d like to start blogging?

In this post we’re going to look at some really important blogging facts you need to know before you dive right in. To begin with there are a few common questions which always appear on the forums, for example:

  1. What is the difference between  WordPress.org,  WordPress.com or Blogger?
  2. Do I need to have an autoresponder?
  3. Do I really need to update my blog daily?
  4. How can I monetize my Blog?
  5. Where on Earth do I begin?

Let’s take a look at each question in turn:

What is the difference between  WordPress.org,  WordPress.com or Blogger?
WordPress.com is a good place to start you blog if for example you are on a tight budget since it’s FREE.  There are however a couple of drawbacks such as the limitation of plugins and themes available, the same applies to Blogger. I should mention also that WordPress.com has been known in the past to shut down Blogs simply because it has a problem with the content not falling in line with their very strict Terms and Conditions of use.

They tend not to give any notice when they do this and subsequently and the blog owner it means that all you hard work has just been wiped off the internet along with subscribers to your blog.

WordPress.org on the other hand is probably the most versatile option. Though it does mean you will need both a Domain Name and a Web Hosting Account. Again there are a number of places you can get these though I would personally recommend Namecheap.com for your Domain name and Hostgator.com for your Web Hosting.

To summarize;-  A Self Hosted blog gives you control over the Look and functionality of your Site since you are not limited to only FREE Themes and Plugins.  Additionally whilst there are of course Moral obligations to the type of content you write, no-one is going to shut you down without question simply because they don’t like what you have written in one of your blog posts.

Next Question was
Do I need to have an autoresponder?

Using an autoresponder on you blog is not essential unless oyu are considering monetizing it. Having an autoresponder such as Aweber or Getresponse will allow oyu to place a subscribe form on you blog and subsequently create a list of subscribers to which you can send promotional emails to either as an affiliate marketer or in order to sell them one of your own products.

Question 3 was
Do I really need to update my blog daily?

the stock answer is No. though you should update perhaps twice weekly when starting out. I don’t know many bloggers that post daily to their blogs and when you consider it, it’s not an easy task to find quality and relevant content every day where you can write between 450 and 1200 words. Not to mention the time involved in doing so.

I should mention though that there are a very small number of Professional bloggers who post four to five times weekly to their blogs.

Question four :-
How can I monetize my Blog?

There are a number of ways this can be done and for those of you just starting out possibly the easiest way is
Affiliate Marketing“.

This requires that you sign up for an affiliate account with the likes of JVZoo or CLikbank both of which are FREE to join. Here you can find a vast array of products which are being sold by internet Marketers and by advertising their products to you subscriber list you will earn a commission (normaly around 50{1039872b9b5b64e46745d9193c25a7ee1c0d2ff4785e24aa066d5c6b00562efc}) for each sale you make. I shoild point out you will also need to have a Paypal account so that you can receive you commission payments.

An alternative would by to sign up for an adsens account and place Google Ads strategically within the pages and posts of your blog.

Our Fifth and final Question is:-
Where on Earth do I begin?

Starting out blogging is not as simple as most people think. It’s no longer a case of creating a blog and writing disjointed rubbish to it day to day.  The easiest method i can suggest is to sit with a pen and paper and write down your goals ie. what you want to achieve from your blog, which direction you want to follow.  For example if you intend to keep it wholly as a Journal about what’s happening in you life Well OK. but you’ll find this type of blog extremely difficult to monetize with anything other than Adsense Ads.

On the other hand should you be looking at entering into affiliate marketing then you can monetize from the product reviews you write and from the sales you make.
